Looks like good, dark dirt. Which, of course, doesn't really mean it's great soil, but it was under the former owner's lawn, so it's probably decently high in nutrients.
It's just seriously beautiful to see any change in the landscape at all! And free is always good when you want to pay off your mortgage.
