Today at church, the young women took over the callings of all the women in Primary and Young Women during the third hour. Monica taught five-year-olds and Alana directed the music in Primary. When I walked into the Primary room to get something out of my bag, Alana said, “Mom!”
I wasn’t sure if she was […]

Do you know a mother who doesn’t work? I mean, really? I am wondering when we drew this horrible line in the sand between those of us who make sacrifices to provide/supplement our families and those of us who make sacrifices to stay home? I am a stay at home mother with four young children. […]

When I was 27 years old and expecting my first child, (Yes I know, shocking isn’t it? I was LDS then, too, although judging by the sounds emitting from my mother-in-law and various neighbors, I could barely claim that. First child at age 27? Ye Gads and Little Tater-Tots! I was nigh unto pre-pre-pre-pre-menopausal. How […]

While pedaling my stationary bike this morning (20 whole minutes!) I re-read President Eyring’s talk on Our Perfect Example from the October General Conference. As expected, it lifted my spirits.
I’ve grown up in the church and my memories are clear as day of sitting in Sunday School only eight years old and […]

Reflections of a twice-divorced, LDS single mom.
I must admit I feel a bit like Matt Foley “motivational speaker” as I prepare to introduce myself. I may not be living in a “van down by the river,” but being married in the temple (not once, but twice) and being divorced (not once, but twice) does tend to […]

This morning I read a post by a woman who is considering starting a “love note writing business” for men who can’t seem to let their mushy side out. It reminded me of myself 23-ish years ago.
I’ve been very happily married for nearly 24 years and it’s not because Sam is a sloppy-faced mushball. He’s […]

When Sam finally got his PhD, we moved to Florida to become real people. Even though our income increased exponentially, we found that real world expenses increased almost as much as real world salaries. So the first few years—when we had anticipated being absolutely swimming in cash—were actually still quite financially challenging.
One day my best […]
