“Mormon Testimonies” and “Mormon Women”: Two great websites for sharing our testimonies online
Mar 6th, 2008 | M. Linford |
There are two recent talks that have lingered with me and have affected my attitudes about my involvement on the internet. One was Sister Beck’s talk to the Relief Society sisters of the Church, where she quoted President Hinckley (law of witnesses!), who said:
I am convinced there is no other organization anywhere to match the Relief Society of this Church. It has a membership of more than five million women across the earth. If they will be united and speak with one voice, their strength will be incalculable….
The other talk was by Elder Ballard, where he encouraged students (and by extension, all of us as members) to let our voices be heard on the internet using tools such as blogs, video, etc.
We have the ability to share our voices here at Mormon Momma as we discuss various topics. I think we have seen that this involvement has born some fruit. But I wonder if we could do more, and wanted to invite us to consider doing more to get “more good” out on the internet.
The More Good Foundation (MGF) exists to help people toward this end. There are many ways we can do this, and MGF has made it easy! I wanted to focus on two MGF-sponsored sites in particular.*
mormontestimonies.org is a place for us to share our testimonies in print, with pictures, and/or via a video. (I have enjoyed the testimonies that include various media.) MGF also encourages us to translate our testimonies if we know another language.
The other site is a new site, mormonwoman.org. When you do a search on ‘Mormon women’ many of the sites that appear are not what we would want people to find. This site gives us an opportunity to let our voices be heard about topics relevant to Mormon womanhood, and to our faith in general. This site can help us come together “united…with one voice” to share the love we have for the gospel and the joy, power, and potential we feel as Mormon women (or men married to or associated with Mormon women!)
The site has a feature called “Sharing Our Voices” that allows us to share our thoughts, feelings, and testimony regarding different topics. All you have to do is click on a topic and comment on a post within that topic. Easy! (Comments there are moderated, so they won’t show up immediately.)
What if we each added our testimony on mormontestimonies.org and each shared a few thoughts on mormonwoman.org? And then imagine if we each invited some of our family members, friends, ward members, and other Church members in our lives to share their voices in this way! There is strength in numbers. There is strength and power in the gospel. Let us take the opportunity to share with the world what the gospel means to us, side-by-side with other brothers and sisters in the gospel, uniting ourselves in the effort to flood the internet with “more good.”
“Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
[T]he power of words is incredible. Let your voice be heard in this great cause of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
May the Lord bless you…to guide you and inspire you and enlighten your minds, that you will know how to participate in this vast, worldwide conversation that is going on. That you may make your contribution wisely, carefully, lovingly, filled with the promptings of power of the Spirit of God, that you too can join in declaring with your words and your voice, the great and glorious message of the restoration to the earth of the fullness of the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ (Elder Ballard).
