Janiel, I so loved this!! And identified. I have two daughter and AMEN AMEN AMEN! My one daughter is 29(not married yet, still looking) and is fond of pointing out that I had all four children before I was 25 years old. In other words she is far superior years and thus in wisdom before her first child(which isn't even concieved yet) than I was after having my last child , (child that I was). I hope she is right.

And don't forget sons. My oldest had an interesting period just after his mission. I thought he was trying to establish a better relationship with me but then I realized he was just "fellowshipping" me so that he could give me much needed advice on how to raise his siblings. Interesting. We have since on and found that good place.

daisy: The last time I was an expert at raising children was the day before I had my first. Age and maturity are helpful, but honey. Your first child is your first child. And unless your daughter delivers a handbook on how to raise that child instead of the afterbirth, she's going to be just as befuddled as any of the rest of us are, and will, one hopes, spend at least as much time on her knees trying to figure it out. The bit about your son cracked me up. Boys are funny critters. *sigh*. I'm glad you have found that good place with him. And I'd love to hear from you on the day your kids come to you, as parents in their own rights, and say, "Oh. Now we get it. Good job, mom."
    You go, girl.

I loved this. Janiel, you are funny and profound all at the same time. I am in awe of you - and of my kids, who teach me every day a tiny portion of what Heavenly Father must feel and think. (Considering how many times He has had to remind me and forgiven me for things, it helps me think before saying to my kids, yet again, "If I've told you once, I've told you a thousand times..." At least I hope I don't say that as often as I used to say it!)

I am realizing that my oldest is now as old as I was when I gave birth to him 21.5 years ago... Yikes, that makes me feel old! So far he hasn't offered parenting tips, but he has recognized and expressed his gratitude for the way we raised him! Whew. One down, five to go...
